Transportation officials in the Bay Area want to hear from the public on how to improve crowded freeways. They have proposed a new plan to possibly start charging drivers per mile driven, on highways like I-80 and I-880. There goal is to lower congestion on some of the Bay Area's heaviest used highways.
They are thinking about making freeways into tollways as one of their possibilities. The amount that motorists would pay would depend on how many miles they traveled on these major highways. Thus, the possible new tollways paid per mile, wouldn't go into effect until 2050.
The transportation officials plan to hold a virtual meeting to discuss the proposals this evening. Thoughts?
